Water is life. But for millions of people across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, access to safe, clean water is anything but guaranteed.
Jay Water Advisory exists to bridge that gap — between complex water science and the communities, students, and decision-makers who need it most. This blog breaks down the technical, the urgent, and the often-overlooked dimensions of water and environmental engineering into clear, practical, and evidence-based insights.
Who Is Behind This Blog?

My name is Jesutofunmi, a water and environmental engineer based in Nigeria with a Master’s degree in Water and Wastewater Engineering, specialising in water and wastewater treatment. My research has focused on coagulation-filtration treatment systems (MSc) and sand filtration treatment systems (BSc) — two of the most widely applicable and cost-effective approaches to delivering safe drinking water — with a particular focus on rural communities affected by mining activities, where water quality challenges are among the most severe and least addressed.
Beyond research, I work within a university environment and have seen firsthand how much ground there is to cover between what science knows and what communities actually have access to. That gap is what drives this blog.
What You Will Find Here
Jay Water Advisory covers a range of topics at the intersection of water, environment, and engineering:
- Groundwater and water scarcity — the science behind why our water resources are under threat and what it means for the future
- Water and wastewater treatment — from household-level solutions to large-scale infrastructure
- Water resources engineering — pipelines, hydraulic structures, flood management, and distribution systems
- Environmental challenges — hazardous waste, pollution, and the broader ecological systems that water depends on
- Practical insights for Nigerian and African contexts — because local challenges deserve local perspectives
Every article is grounded in research, written accessibly, and aimed at being genuinely useful — whether you are a student, a practitioner, a policymaker, or simply someone who cares about water.
Why It Matters
Nigeria is one of the most water-stressed nations in the world, yet water issues rarely get the sustained, evidence-based public attention they deserve. Rural communities bear the heaviest burden — dealing with contaminated sources, inadequate infrastructure, and the compounding effects of industrial activity on their water supply.
This blog is a small but deliberate contribution to changing that conversation.
